Pay a Fine

All conduct-related fines are charged to the student’s account.

Lift a Hold

When students have not completed a requirement imposed by the Dean of Students Office, a hold will be placed on the student’s account. Typically, holds will block students from registering for classes or from making changes to existing class schedules.

The first step in having a hold removed is make sure you have completed the requirement imposed by the Dean of Students Office (pay a fine, complete community service, attend counseling, etc.). Once the requirement has been completed, please call the Dean’s Office at (305) 284-5353 to request removal of the hold.

Schedule an Appointment

If you are required to schedule an appointment or would like to request an appointment with a dean or other staff member to discuss an issue or concern, please call the Dean of Students Office at (305) 284-5353. You can also schedule by stopping in the office at Whitten University Center, Suite 2250. Once your appointment is confirmed please make every effort to arrive a few minutes early. If you must cancel or reschedule, please call as soon as possible to let us know. Appointments are scheduled during regular office hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Request Dean’s Certification

When academic institutions or employers request confirmation of the disciplinary record of students or alumni, the Dean of Student’s Office will prepare a Dean’s Certification letter. For federal reporting purposes, the Dean of Students Office retains disciplinary records in accordance with the Student Rights and Responsibilities Manual. The student’s discipline record, including a summary of the outcome and sanction, will be the source for the summary provided to the requesting institution. The Dean does not need to meet with the person requesting the form.

To request a Dean’s Certification letter, students and alumni must download and complete the request form. The completed request form, and all accompanying documents, should then be submitted in one of the following ways:

  • Email to Tery Ortega at t.ortega@miami.edu
  • In person to Dean of Students Office, located in UC 2250

Letters are written in the order received from applicants. Please allow 5-7 business days for your request to be processed.
